Colossians

The theme of Colossians is “Christ”, and the book refutes heretical teachings that included the importance of philosophical speculations, astrology, intermediation through angels, certain food practices and other erroneous teaching. Gnostic thought had crept into the church at Colossae, claiming that matter was evil and thought (spirit) was good, therefore what happened in and through the body was of no consequence. Paul addresses these heretical teachings in a positive manner.

You will notice the teaching style of T. E. Lee consistently includes these components:

    • The verse text in Greek (from the Septuagint)
    • The verse text in English
    • A definition of words from the original language
    • An exegesis of the text
    • Supplementary quotes by revered theologians

This Study Guide was initially intended as a series of Sunday School lessons and is equally useful for sermon preparation or individual Bible study.
