Insights on Worship from the Minor Prophets

Worship From The Minor Prophets

Devotional or Quiet Time Scripture is often selected based on the need of the moment.

  • People seeking encouragement will look to the Psalms or will search for
    God’s Promises.
  • Those desiring information on Christian living will find help in the epistles.
  • If History is of interest, then the Pentateuch, the Gospels or the book of Acts
    are appropriate.
  • Wisdom literature can be found in Proverbs and the Song of Solomon.
  • If a deeper understanding of Escatology is desired, then the books of
Revelation or Daniel address that topic.

But seldom do we turn to the Minor Prophets for inspiration, counsel or devotional
encouragement, and for a very good reason: prophetic books are commonly perceived as warnings of impending judgment, looming disaster, destructive plagues and military takeovers.

While there is a plethora of judgment foretold by the prophets, there is also a generous balance of God’s mercy and grace, including the positive outcomes of obedience.
